Become a better speaker

Toastmasters can help you develop the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation.

Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is an efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills.

By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. The Toastmasters program will help you to:

  • Develop better speaking and presentation skills
  • Learn to think quickly and clearly on your feet
  • Learn techniques to stop your hands shaking when presenting
  • Build strong leadership abilities
  • Hone your listening skills
  • Enhance your resumé and career prospects – many companies value the Toastmasters qualifications

Learn to become a leader

Leadership is the art of persuading others to do what you wish to be done. To do so, you need to communicate, and you need to work as a team. In Toastmasters, you’ll do both.

You’ll find out how to vary your approach to suit the needs of different people, be they the audience for a speech, the committee for a fundraiser, or the members of your family.

There are plenty of opportunities to learn how to lead in Toastmasters. It might be facilitating a session during a meeting, running the meeting or even joining the team who run the club to learn how to lead larger groups of people.

Members join Toastmasters for a variety of reasons such preparing for a work presentation, a wedding speech, or just to meet new friends. We believe becoming a better speaker and leader impacts all aspects of your life, helping you speak up, be heard and reach the goals in life which are important to you.

What exactly is Toastmasters?

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a fun and low-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations, which is an essential part of Toastmasters.

Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and meeting procedure.

Members learn communication skills by working through a series of self-paced speaking assignments designed to build a foundation in public speaking, called the Pathways Education Program.

When you join, all members have the option of partnering with a mentor, to help them get personalised support to reach their goals.
